This series is about the transformation of discarded objects, about the beauty and fun of juxtaposing throwaways and assembling them into something new. The rule I had in mind was that everything had to be found or given to me, no purchased items allowed. With all the emphasis these days on going green, the obvious satisfaction was in feeling good about picking up trash and recycling it. Secondary but more personally rewarding was the aspect of discovery. The further I got into the series, the more attentive I became to the fact that my world is full of raw materials with interesting shapes, colors and textures, just waiting to be noticed and given new life. As the artwork developed, many pieces spoke their stories with humor, a few with sorrow. Each piece naturally is influenced by my personal history. I hope viewers discover pieces of their own journey, as well. |
