ARTIST STATEMENT
A visual artist for 20 years, I have been captivated by
the broad range of experimentation possible with encaustic
paint for the last 7 years. The finished piece can range
from rough and sculptural to shiny and smooth. People
always want to touch the encaustic surface, but of course,
they restrain themselves because, after all, you don’t
‘touch’ fine art.
To me, one of the joys of encaustics during the working
process is the touching and buffing of the surface, and
the resulting aromatic riffs of beeswax.
"Earth Elementals" are part of the ELEMENTALS
Series, created in tribute to the four basic elements,
earth, water, air, and fire, once considered to be the
basic building blocks of nature.
Each encaustic Elemental is painted on all six sides.
With no means to be wall mounted, these artworks provide
inherent permission to handle.
You are in fact encouraged to pick them up, turn
over in your hands, buff them with the cloth provided,
stack and
re-stack!
Play!
