My intent is to evoke a sense of the deeper, elemental side of our shared humanity. 

A fundamental component in all of my work is my interest in serendipitous connections between people, places, and things, in how even a seemingly insignificant choice alters the course of a life, or the making of a work of art.

I am a mixed media artist, frequently utilizing texture in my paintings to provide visual depth, tactile interest, and as a way of suggesting the passing of time and movement through space. Acrylic remains my primary media, however I have recently been exploring the ancient medium of encaustics. 

I am drawn to encaustic by the medium’s luminosity and permanence of color, its capacity to be layered and sculpted, and for the sensual nature of the warm, aromatic beeswax, which permeates my studio during the painting process.

My passion is the creative process. I rarely pre-plan a painting’s final look, preferring the spontaneity of building random patterns of color, texture, and shape. As a work nears completion, elements of composition and design come into play, transforming the previously chaotic shapes into the finished painting.

When I'm engaged in art, there's always some new discovery to be made and experienced, which keeps my life interesting and fun! If others enjoy a sense of mystery or joy when they look at my work, all the better.
