Sheary Clough Suiter is a mixed media encaustic artist whose narrative painting style incorporates both figurative imagery and abstract design, with an emphasis on color and texture. Sheary was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon and attended both OSU and UofO. After becoming a Registered Dental Hygienist, Sheary headed north where she spent the next ten years in bush Alaska, devoting summers to managing a remote sport fishing lodge, and the long winters to becoming a writer. Following the publication of two novels, Sheary’s daughter, Lauren, was born. Sheary began to study drawing and painting while working on her MFA in Creative Writing at University of Alaska, Anchorage. A 35-year resident of Alaska, Sheary has now been a working artist for over twenty years. She has received numerous awards recognizing her expertise in Encaustics, including a Permanent Collection Purchase by the Anchorage Museum, Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Project Award, and an Alaska State Council on the Arts Career Opportunity Grant. Sheary is founder and past president of AKIEA (Alaska Chapter International Encaustic Artists). She currently serves on the IEA Executive Board as Chief Officer of Opportunities Sheary also teaches the art of painting with encaustics. Sheary’s art is represented in Anchorage, Alaska at Stephan Fine Arts Gallery, and in Portland, Oregon at the Attic Gallery and in Port Colborne, Ontario at Something Else.
